I love Ikea

4. January 2007

We went and bought new furniture yesterday, and it got delivered today.
I now have a filing cabinet! I feel so grown up. It’s really big and really heavy, and sort of looks like tea chests. I’ll take a photo of it tomorrow.
We also got a new shelf and a massive coffee table of awesomeness.

I love assembling furniture, but I always forget just how involving Ikea furniture is. From the extra bits to the not-quite-flush boards, to blunt screws, the fun just never ends. but the finished products, while maybe slightly lopsided, are inevitably something I’m immensely proud of.
And hey, if screws don’t want to be screwed in, screw it, use a hammer!

It’s fun, it’s exhausting, and it’s something you can look at and appreciate at the end of the day. It might not have been as easy as the plan made it out to be, but in the end, only you will be able to notice every little flaw and splinter.

Who said Ikea furniture wasn’t like writing?

In other news, Enter The Parrot is hitting its climax. Almost at the end now!
